Luckily, I left my lab when the Cubs were only up 3-0 because I found a $25 gift card on the ground this morning for the on-campus pub and it expired today, so I figured getting lunch and a beer for free would be a good plan for a Friday afternoon. It’s just as well that I left, since Francisco Liriano imploded the next inning and the Pirates fell to the Cubs in lopsided fashion yet again this season, 9-4. Liriano gave up three homers and four walks but also notched half of the outs he recorded via strikeout. A very Liriano start, to say the least, but mostly he wasn’t that good. The only bright spot in this one was Andrew McCutchen’s two-run homer (and he's been hitting well overall lately) with two outs in the ninth, which some asshole Cubs fan (not sure if it’s this kid’s dad or not) takes from the kid and throws back on to the field himself, which is really a selfish, embarrassing move:
This is a bad start to this series with Arrieta looming tomorrow and the Cubs just pushing out that division lead further and further. I don’t want to completely give up on winning the division on May 12, but it’s looking pretty damn bleak already.
