Gerrit Cole got a little rowdy at the Pens game last night, hootin’ and hollerin’ at the Caps players from his seat along the glass. Luckily, it’s 2016 and everyone carries around recording devices in their pockets, so these shenanigans were captured on video:
Later in the game, Cole was reprimanded by security for his uncouth behavior:
Good to see his intensity on the mound carries over into every facet of his life. This reminds me of the time I was at a State College Spikes game back in 2008 when they were a Pirates minor league affiliate (there’s an outside chance I saw Jordy Mercer play in this game, but it was most likely Chase D’Arnaud). They were playing the Batavia Muckdogs, which is one the most minor league-y minor league team names, and my one friend just started yelling “BOOOOOOOOOOOOO THE MUCKDOGS!!!” over and over. It’s hard to convey the spectacular lack of cleverness in this insult without hearing it yourself. And if you’ve ever been to a short-season single-A game, you know that everyone in the park can basically hear everyone who’s yelling. This persisted throughout the game, with a whole passel of fans joining in as the game wore on. It was really pretty hilarious; I wonder if any of those Batavia guys remember it.
Big ups to Gerrit Cole for repping his adopted city, drinking some beers, and getting into the action like the best hockey fans out there.
